Every action we take is guided by our deep commitment to equity, excellence, and the transformative power of education.
To provide every K-12 student in underserved communities access to high-quality academic support, mentorship, and the resources they need to succeed in school, college, and life.
A future where every child in Shreveport, regardless of zip code or family income, has the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their community.
We exist to break the cycle of educational inequity by investing in children today, building the confident, capable, and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
SIHAF K-12 Learning Academy was born from a deep conviction: that every child in our community deserves a champion. Our founders witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of educational inequity β children falling behind not due to lack of ability or ambition, but due to lack of access and support.
In the early days, we operated out of a single room at a local church in Shreveport's Allendale neighborhood, serving just 15 students with borrowed tables and donated textbooks. The demand was overwhelming. Parents lined up hoping for a spot. Teachers volunteered their evenings. The community rallied around a simple belief: education changes lives.
Over the years, SIHAF has grown dramatically. We expanded our programs, hired dedicated staff, trained volunteer mentors, and built partnerships with schools, businesses, and government agencies. Today, we serve over 1,200 students annually across multiple programs and locations throughout the Shreveport area.
Our journey is far from over. Every year, we deepen our impact and expand our reach. Every child we serve reminds us why we started β and why we will never stop.
Our dedicated staff, board members, and volunteer educators bring passion, expertise, and heart to everything they do.
Our diverse board of directors provides strategic oversight, fiduciary responsibility, and community accountability for SIHAF K-12 Learning Academy.
We believe in complete transparency. Here is how we allocate every dollar donated to SIHAF K-12 Learning Academy.

Six comprehensive programs designed to support every K-12 student on their journey from classroom to career.
Our flagship program provides free, high-quality tutoring in core academic subjects for students in grades K through 12. Every session is led by trained volunteer educators and supervised by certified teachers. Students receive individualized attention based on their current grade level, learning style, and academic goals.
We offer both one-on-one and small group tutoring formats, homework help, test preparation support, and reading intervention services for younger students. Our tutors are trained in culturally responsive teaching and trauma-informed practices to ensure every student feels safe, seen, and supported.
Our STEM Enrichment Lab brings the excitement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to life through hands-on, project-based learning. Students in grades 3β12 engage in experiments, robotics projects, coding workshops, and engineering challenges that build critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The lab is equipped with computers, 3D printers, robotics kits, science equipment, and interactive learning materials. We partner with local businesses and universities to bring guest instructors, field trips, and real-world career connections to our students.
The SIHAF Youth Mentorship Program connects students ages 10β18 with caring, trained adult mentors from across the Shreveport community. Mentors meet with their mentees biweekly for one-on-one sessions focused on academic goal setting, social-emotional skill building, career exploration, and character development.
Mentors come from diverse professional backgrounds including healthcare, law, engineering, education, entrepreneurship, and public service. Each mentor-mentee relationship is carefully matched and supported by our professional program staff.
Designed for students in grades 9β12, our College Readiness program demystifies the college application process and ensures every student has equal access to higher education opportunities. Services include SAT/ACT preparation, college essay writing workshops, financial aid guidance, scholarship searches, and college visits.
Our college counselors work individually with each student to build a personalized post-secondary plan that aligns with their talents, interests, and goals β whether that path leads to a four-year university, community college, vocational training, or the workforce.
Academic success begins with emotional health. Our SEL program provides students with essential life skills including self-awareness, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, empathy, and resilience. Weekly group sessions and individual check-ins help students navigate the social and emotional challenges of adolescence with confidence and grace.
Our SEL facilitators are licensed social workers and mental health professionals who create safe, confidential spaces for students to process their feelings, build healthy relationships, and develop the social competencies needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Summer Learning Camp prevents the "summer slide" β the well-documented loss of academic skills during school breaks β by providing an engaging, six-week summer enrichment experience for K-8 students. Campers participate in academic instruction, STEM activities, arts and crafts, field trips, sports, and team-building activities.
The camp is designed to be fun, culturally enriching, and academically rigorous. We provide breakfast and lunch daily, transportation assistance, and take-home activity kits. The camp is offered at low or no cost to families demonstrating financial need.
All of our programs are free or low-cost for eligible families. Contact us today to learn about enrollment, volunteer opportunities, or how your donation funds these programs.
